Two
broken wrists and plantar faciitis,
A sprained MCL and Achilles tendonitis,
A torn bursa with chondromalasia in my knee,
Fascinatingly colored bruises - all over me.
Five years of hard work - on-ice and off-ice,
Camps, tapes, and lessons – this jump is my vice.
Three years of frustration since luck sucked me in,
When I land my first axel, the obsession begins.
My body’s confused, what do I ask it to do?
A feat not from it's youth, a skill that is new!
My tears fall on the ice for all to see,
Children surround – they understand me.
My husband is full of love and support,
Only his eyes show concern for my sport.
These are the things that brought me to today.
December 4th, 2005! A beautiful day!
For this is the day that I discovered MY axel.
